Since the passage of the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000 (CAFRA 2000), U.S. Customs officials have made thousands of seizures of money and currency from persons entering and departing the United States without completing the currency reporting forms. We are aware of $1,806,275.01 seized by U.S. Customs. But we are also aware that $1,607,233.67 of this amount was refunded as of June 6, 2010.
